“I’ll have Twovee look for something stronger.” Fidelia hesitated. “A little?” Grimacing, Ashara shook her head. “Ashara, my dear,” said the Sith Lord, “how are you feeling? Are the pain meds helping at all?” Fidelia bent over the young Togruta, smoothing back some of her own auburn hair with one hand and smiling softly. Even her boots were traded in for velvet red slippers. In her long red robes, she looked every bit a member of the Dark Council, but she didn’t wear the skull-shaped mask of Lord Kallig or have a lightsaber clipped to her belt. The door slid open, and there was Fidelia Kallig, her lord and her Master, standing over her in an instant. She was halfway through a meditation exercise, trying to regain her inner peace, when the door to her Master’s quarters chimed. “This is not,” she said aloud, to herself as much as to the Force, “the life I expected to lead.” She lowered her head onto the pillow, stared up at the ceiling, and let out a sigh. Ashara tried not to think about the smell if she kept wearing it for much longer. Prodding the front of the diaper, she could feel how wet it’d become, and she knew the wound had done her bladder and bowels no favors. Someone just had to put a diaper on Ashara as well.

How quickly she’d fallen, when her lord required her aid in battle! But the wound prevented her from getting up, as did the strange plastic garment around her hips.Īs if being cut down wasn’t bad enough. When she woke up in her Master’s quarters on the ship, Ashara felt defeated. Panic had filled the wintry air, and Ashara had automatically pulled herself into a Jedi healing trance, hands pressed over the cauterized wound that drowned her in agony. As his body dropped to the ground, soft warm hands took Ashara by her shoulders and legs, lifting her off the dirt in a bridal carry. A bloodcurdling scream filled her ears, and suddenly a red blade took Varion’s head clean off. Ashara had gasped and collapsed to the icy ground of Ziost outside the Sith’s estate. Varion had sneered, but only for a moment. She hadn’t felt the lightsaber slice into her abdomen until it was too late. But between the lightning storms he and her lord summoned, the rubble they’d tossed at one another, and the rapid-fire exchanges between burning red lightsabers, Ashara had been too busy trying to protect her master from harm while she went to deal the killing blow. Taking down Darth Varion had been momentous. She remembered some of the battle, other than the fact that they’d won. “Then I have an appointment to keep,” she added, “and someone special to visit.” Loyalty permeated the room in three different varieties, all delectable to the Sith Lord’s tastes. “Now, then, if there is nothing else.” Fidelia rose from her chair. She would have Khem Val keep a closer eye on him. It hadn’t escaped her notice how disappointed he’d looked when Varion’s lightsaber had failed to cut her down in battle. For a Kaleesh, Xalek was bloodthirsty, but it was typical among his fellow Sith. “Very good, my Master.” Behind his bone mask, Xalek’s yellow eyes widened, and Fidelia could almost taste the raw fury within them. “And if anyone from Varion’s faction gives you trouble, you have my permission to slaughter them, no questions asked.” “As for you, my apprentice, there are soldiers to inspect, new recruits from Varion’s power base to whip into shape, and the local wilds to tame for our expanded base of operations.” She narrowed her eyes and smiled in a way that was none too friendly. I only wish I could be there myself to go over all these prizes.” And with that, the Sith Lord cast her eye toward the silent figure standing in the corner, arms crossed over his massive chest. “My lord! Oh, it will be my absolute honor!” “And you, Lieutenant Drellik, will be overseeing every excavation and artifact catalog we now possess from Varion’s coffers.”ĭrellik beamed at her. She turned to the upright, eager archaeologist on her left. “Along with my pick of the spoils, right?” The old pirate chuckled, running a hand over his smooth head. Andronikos, my dear, will have complete control of our space forces over Ziost.” “As successful as our efforts against Lord Varion were,” she told her crew, “I require all of your assistance in managing the aftermath. But through it all, her voice remained calm and clipped. She steepled her fingers together and leaned forward, eyes narrowing as a thousand thoughts flooded through her head. Three pairs of eyes glanced around at Fidelia Kallig-now Darth Imperius-at the head of the conference table on board her ship.
